Saturday was a good day. Although it was cold and blustery in the upper rows of section M, it was a pleasant experience at the game vs. Buffalo. As expected, there were a lot of empty seats but when it comes down to it that doesn't really matter. All that matters is what happens on the field and the rest will take care of itself.
The Petros were hot and ready and so was Tyler Bray. Bray continues to impose his will on defenses in light of no real running game. Yes, I know... consider the opponent. But I would like to remind you of a day not so long ago when, under the direction of Jonathan Crompton and/or Nick Stephens we struggled to get first downs against even bad opponents. While the qb's at that time were only a part of the problem.. it's a fact. It's also a fact that Tennessee is the best in the SEC at converting 3rd downs. So bad opponent or not, we are moving the chains and it makes me happy inside. I wonder what might have been without the Hunter injury, but I don't feel as hopeless as I did after the UF game. If Arnett can just keep learning the scheme, and with some creative play calling by Chaney to keep things relatively simple for him.. we should still be very solid at the WR position. OL and the running game needs to keep making progress, and fast. While UGA isn't THAT imposing of a defense... some extremely imposing defenses loom in the following weeks.
On defense, we just need to eliminate the gigantic mind lapses. We've spaced out only a few times, but they've cost us BIG. Against the likes of SEC competition, our margin of error will be minute. While we may be somewhat solid, we're not good enough to overcome huge mistakes.
I feel good about UGA. Bring them on.
