Topics of Discussion

What we vol fans saw Saturday was a pathetic excuse for a football game and to top it off the bad luck curse bit us again.  I was scanning my facebook page Sunday morning and I saw a post from one of my friends that said “no matter what I am a VFL!!!”  and I thought to myself that being a VFL is sort of like having a disease.  If you are reading this post you probably have it and I know all the contributors for this blog have it.  We bleed orange and no matter how pissed off we were Saturday we will be watching next Saturday and then the next.
Let’s face it the following 4 Saturdays are just going to suck plain and simple.  We are getting ready to face the nation’s number 1 and then followed up by the number 2 team, and the only offense we had is out for 6 weeks.  We officially can’t run the ball, now we can’t throw the ball, can’t stop anybody or anything on defense, and our special teams sure is special.  We are the pooch and the pooch is screwed.
If Simms holds on to the ball like he normally does the LSU defense might kill him, and if he survives the LSU defense the Bama defense will finish him off.  This is Simms chance to be the quarterback that he was supposed to be.  I would love to see him be successful in this last chance opportunity he has, but with our offensive line issues and his habit of holding on to the ball too long I just don’t see him surviving.
Would UT playing Justin Worley give us hope for the future?  I think so and hope is all that we have right now.  This fan base needs to see some hope for a bright future because right now after the beating we got this weekend the future seems to remain dull.  UT has become non-existent and a nobody in the SEC.  The only rivalry that remains is the UT/UK rivalry and that is only because we have won the last 26 years.  Yes to us the Florida and Alabama rivalry is still there but I doubt that Florida and Alabama views us as a rival.  To them we are no different than Kentucky is to us, just a team that is not as talented and a W on the schedule.
UT definitely has their problems but the Clay Travis’ of the world calling for Dooley to be replaced as head football coach makes me think some people are jumping the gun.
I fully agree with the fact that our game plan sucked Saturday and all the substitutions on defense every play while the opposing offensive is running hurry up offense is just silly.  However a head coaching change right now is the last thing that UT needs.  Name a coach that would have made the last 2 years a success at UT?  A guy on Saban’s level maybe but last time I checked there wasn’t a lot of coaches on that level.  A few staff changes may occur over the off season and I would be ok with that but a full overhaul of the coaching staff is absurd.  Dooley needs to stack the cupboards full of talent before any serious talk of a coaching change needs to happen. Clay Travis needs to stick to writing books and stop trying to sabotage UTs program because he still hasn't got over the fact that we fired Fulmer!  Clay please read this aloud to yourself “Fulmer is gone if you are truly a UT fan you will get over it and realize that a coaching change is the last thing we need.”
With all that said Dooley does need to add a little miracle grow to the water when he is watering the bamboo because the hot seat conversation is only going to grow over the next few weeks.  By next year the bamboo needs to be in a full out growth spurt!
For us VFLs we got to hang together because last Saturday was just a preview of what the following weeks will look like.  It is going to be tough and we are just glutens for punishment because we continue to come back for more.  We continually get kicked in the pants with bad bounces, star player injuries, a defense that continually gives up big plays, and a special team that can’t punt the ball or kick an extra point.  With all that we just don’t have it in us not to watch week in and week out.  I have said it before and I will say it again when UT is back on top we VFLs will be able to drink the sweet nectar of success and say that we rode the crazy ride from rock bottom back to top of the SEC!
