Monday Morning QB

Well once again God blessed us with a beautiful weekend to enjoy, and if you are reading this you probably did so by watching college football.  There was no shakeup in the Top Ten, but a few teams put on some impressive performances.  We can’t wait to release our RSW Power Rankings.  Be sure to check back and see who is moving closer to the top after another week of games.

Here are my thoughts of this weekend:

LSU: I guess the team to kill Florida lately is always a favorite team of mine.  At best, Florida was seeking a moral victory, and they couldn’t even come close to achieving that.  LSU has so much speed on defense and apparently adding Jordan Jefferson to the game plan only makes them better.  I think that says a lot about Lee and the maturity of this team.  They will get my vote once again this weekend for the best team in the SEC -- which means they are the best in the nation.

Alabama:  Anytime you hold an SEC team scoreless you have done something.  I know Vanderbilt gets no respect, nor do they deserve any, but any SEC fan will tell you there are too many athletes on each roster to hold somebody scoreless.  Bama is just that good.  They have shown once again they have the total package and seem to just get better each week.

Arkansas:  I said on several message boards last week this team is not out of the picture.  I know it is not probable for them to win the West division.  Alabama has a 1 game lead on them and they still have to play LSU.   Besides LSU, Arkansas should win the rest of their games with their biggest challenge being South Carolina at home.  I think there is a very good possibility that we may have a three-way tie in the West at the end of the year.  I don’t think that will happen, because although I say LSU is #1, you have to give Bama the edge in their matchup because the game is in Tuscaloosa.  As for the Razorbacks, they have a history of playing LSU very tough.  The biggest stat going into that game will be injuries.  Whoever is the healthiest will have the edge.

Auburn: They had two tough weeks in a row by playing the fierce South Carolina Defense and the high-powered Razorback offense.  This week they have another tough assignment by playing a fast Florida defensive team.  We all thought that their defense last week against South Carolina was probably not as good as the SC offense was bad.  The Razorbacks sent that message home, and they also showed for the 2nd straight week that this offense can be slowed down especially with the injuries at receiver.

South Carolina:  Steve Spurrier picked a good week to try something new on offense and build some confidence in their Quarterback.  Kentucky is terrible and probably the worst SEC team since South Carolina went 0-11 during the Lou Holtz tenure.  Although the Cocks have a ½ game lead on Georgia, they are going to need some help in order to win the East.  I just don’t think they can win out and I expect them to lose at Arkansas and maybe Florida if Brantley is back.

UGA:  The Bulldogs needed to make a statement Saturday night and that is what they did by beating Tennessee and edging a little closer in control of the East.  The key for them is can they handle success and can they get by Auburn and Florida?  The UGA secondary can cover very well and their defense continues to show they are a Top Ten defense nationally. I think they will the East and Play in Atlanta.

Florida:  In the last ten years Florida has had Rex Grossman, Chris Leak, and Tim Tebow at quarterback.  Now their fans are getting to experience reality of life without a QB.  Florida still has some playmakers and their two toughest games are now behind them.  Their season is completely in the future of Brantley’s health.

Tennessee:  Now that Tyler Bray will miss the next 6 weeks with a broken thumb we can only be assured that he will not get broken in half by LSU or Alabama.  Tennessee can’t run the ball, and now they can’t pass and their defense can’t cover receivers, their linebackers are of no effect, and their kickers can’t kick.  This team is terribly immature and fold at the first breathe of adversity.  At best they will go 6-6 and play in the Liberty bowl.  Just another pathetic season for the Vols.

Notes:
The taunting rule is so stupid and the coaches who agreed to it are idiots.  If you don’t want people taunting your players then coach them to bust their opponent in the mouth.

The Oklahoma Sooners were very impressive and they deserve a lot of hype, but Texas would finish 3rd in the SEC East.  I think the Sooners are the 4th best team in the country, but if they keep winning they may get a chance to prove otherwise.

Go Vols
